Did you know it wasn’t CNN, NYT, ST or any other media giant that was the first in reporting the shooting incident in Mumbai?
It was Twitter!
Twitter is currently the hottest micro-blogging site in the Internet world right now. In fact, even as I’m writing this post now, there’s talk that Google wanted to buy over Twiter.
If you’ve not registered an account with them, you had better do it quick before your name gets taken up. Who knows? You may become famous one day?
Here are some quick tips:
- Use your real name. Do not use underscore, ‘_’. Using underscore is a dead giveaway that you’re a late adopter. Furthermore, people who are using iPhone will have two extra steps to take if they your username comes with an underscore.
- Use a real picture if you want people to follow you. There are probably hundreds, if not thousands, of picture who may have the same name as you. If you don’t use your real picture, your friends will never know whether they’re following the correct person or not. Remember, people want to network with people, not companies, brands or logos.
- If you’re serious about using Twitter to create a media presence, get this book: “Twitter Power” by Joel Comm before your competitor does!. The topic on “Designing Your Twitter Profile” alone has helped increased the hit rates of my otherwise dormant URLs by at least 300%. And read it before you even start following anybody!
