Why do people fail/struggle in MLM – Part 3

It’s been a long while since I posted something under the MLM category. I Have been lazy. No excuse. No justification. Anyhow, I’ll be continuing on the topic, “Why do people fail/struggle in MLM”. And this is Part 3.

Confusing activity with accomplishment.

This is what many a MLMer does. They attend ALL the trainings and events conducted by their uplines, team, or company. They read ALL the books recommended by their sponsorship line. They watch/listen to ALL the videos/audio recommended by MLM gurus and experts. They even attend ALL the generic courses they can find out there to improve on their self-esteem, image, cold-call techniques, NLP, e.t.c..

Do you know what’s missing in these activities? There’s nothing about them inviting their prospects to view the business opportunity! Now, I’m not saying that all these are wrong. In fact these activities have a place in themselves. But attending these activities will not immediately help bring downlines into your MLM organisation. No matter what compensation plan your company offers, zero times any number is still zero.

As an MLMer, your immediate, most important and urgent activity is to put prospects into your prospecting funnel. Do not postpone this most important activity in the name of attending courses to ‘perfect’ your inviting skills, self esteem, image, etc. This is NOT brain surgery, no one will die if you make a mistake.

Please understand that in MLM, you just can’t say the wrong thing to the right person. When your prospect is ready, he’s ready. When he’s not, no matter how well you present your business activity, how beautiful your tools are, he’s just not ready! The key here is to talk to enough people. And while you’re doing that, dig your well before you’re thirsty – i.e. continue to expand your candidate list.

Everyday before you go to bed, ask yourself this question: “Today, how many times has my business opportunity been shown by me and my downlines in the form of a tool or a company event?” The answer of course is the more the merrier. If your answer is zero and continue to be zero, for your MLM business sake, change it!

Until then, I wish you all the best!

Great Post Melvin! I can’t tell you the times I found myself reorganizing my desk, creating some “gotta-have” tool to “help my team”, or sweeping the kitchen floor instead of being productive & connecting with people. Having a leader who will hold you accountable is so beneficial. A mantra that always I come back to often is: If nothing changes then nothing changes. Pretty simple, but it has been a motivating truth of inspiration for me. Thanks for sharing!

Rob
